The Biotree Urn has been designed to function with simplicity, so let's get started with this easy step by step guide.

Step 1: Opening the Biotree Urn

Hands holding a Biotree Urn

Once you have removed the Biotree Urn from its packaging, cradle the urn in your hands and by using your thumbs gently push upwards to detach the base of the urn. Inside you will find the following:

  • Registration card
  • Memorial bracelet
  • Contributions card
  • Instruction manual
  • Three indigenous tree species
  • Filter paper inlay

You can set these items aside for later.

Step 2: Preparing the Biotree Urn for a seed

Firmly reattach the base of the urn, once completed pour 800ml of water into the top compartment of the Biotree Urn, the soil tablet inside will start expanding and filling the top compartment with soil, allow 2 minutes for the soil to expand.

Step 3: Planting a seed

Now that the top compartment of the Biotree Urn is filled with soil it's time to plant your chosen tree species. Using the wooden stir provided, make a whole in the soil roughly 1cm deep and place your seed in the hole. If you are using a seed OR seedling not included with your Biotree Urn, please ensure that you plant the seed according to the instructions you have obtained from a professional. Each seed species is different and you should refer to your instruction manual to ensure you are planting the seeds according to its needs.

Once your seed is planted, gently cover the seed with soil using the wooden stir and allow the seed to germinate. All seeds are different and germination times vary from species to species, be patient during this time and attentive to the needs of your seed.

Step 4: Planting the Biotree Urn

Once your Biotree Urn has germinated its time to plant it. The Biotree Urn can be planted in a pot, however, soil advice should be obtained from a professional to ensure that your potted Biotree Urn will receive all the nutrients it requires.

To plant the Biotree Urn you will need to dig a hole measuring about 160mm wide x 280mm deep and place the urn in the hole. When planted the top opening of the Biotree Urn must remain visible, this is so that you can water the seedling directly during its infancy, taking special care of the needs of the seedling and protecting it from harsh weather.

Step 5: Celebrate Life

The registration card included with your Biotree Urn is as unique as the life it represents. By visiting our websites Registration page and filling in the form fields, you can Geotag and write an online memorial for a loved one.

Once you completed your online memorial it will be visible on the Biotree.earth website in the Map section.
